Claire Tully Obituary

Claire Provost Tully, former spouse of the late Laurent Millaudon Tully, mother of the late Lauren Ann Tully, daughter of the late Louise and Dennis Provost, granddaughter of the late Albert John Sacerdote, and sister of the late Louise Provost Zichichi, passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the age of 84, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is survived by her loving daughter Colleen Claire Tully and loving grandson, Graham Tully Elmore of Boulder, Colorado; many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; as well as her best friend Billy Bob Ber Van Vrancken, whose friendship endured for over 50 years. Claire was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up on Poland Avenue and graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School on St. Claude Avenue, Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and attended professional and continuing studies classes at Loyola University, New Orleans. Claire was an OR nurse for over a decade and pivoted careers in 1970 to found CTA (Claire Tully and Associates, Interior Design). She was the recipient of a variety of awards and accolades for both commercial and residential design spanning 40 years. This longevity was recognition of her unique style, creativity and attention to detail. One of the best-known hotel projects CTA completed was the conversion of the New Orleans Maison Blanche building into a Ritz Hotel property. CTA was responsible for Iberville All Suites portion, the penthouse suite and assisting in the final completion of all public spaces for the grand opening of the New Orleans Ritz Carlton Hotel. Other commercial projects included Ramada Inn(s) (Miami, Houston and San Francisco), New Orleans' City Energy Club and Methodist Hospital, New Orleans. Her last, large-scale residential project was the Jesuit Bend home of Denise and Brent Buford, featured in Louisiana Life. Ms. Tully also owned and operated a hotel property in the French Quarter (Olivier House Hotel at 828 Toulouse St.) from 1978 - 1982. Ms. Tully was a longtime member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), board member of New Orleans Women of Fashion, The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater New Orleans and The Compassionate Friends, Greater New Orleans Chapter. Claire often worked tirelessly to assist others in need. Her powerful personality, wit and charm will be missed by the many people she touched throughout her life.
