Catherine Nieto Obituary
Catherine Byrne “Granny” Nieto passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 in Mandeville, LA at the age of 92. She was born in New Orleans, LA and resided on the Northshore for the past 20 years. Catherine graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1947. She was a member of AA and enjoyed 48 years of sobriety. She enjoyed crabbing and spending time at the beach on the Gulf Coast. She enjoyed staying there with her sisters. She was very talented at cross stitching and made cross stitched items for her family. Her husband passed away in 1963 leaving a young widow to raise their 4 children on her own.
Wife of the late Rudolph Nieto, Jr. Daughter of the late Robert Emmett Byrne and Anna McLaughlin Byrne. Devoted mother of Michael (Sandy), Kim (Joan), Greg (Vickie), and the late Stephanie. Catherine was the last of her late siblings Robert, Jr., Sister Margaret, Jane “Betty”, and Patricia “Pat”. As the girls grew they were known as “the 4 lovely Byrne girls”. They loved being with each other. She was a grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 13.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life and Mass at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM. Mass begins at 2:30 PM.
Catherine was a very charitable person, therefore if anyone would like to make a donation in her memory they may do so to a charity of their choice.
