Barbara Nungesser Hantel

Barbara Nungesser Hantel passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the age of 82, in the presence of her loving family. Barbara was born in New Orleans on August 24, 1938, to Philip and Eunice Nungesser. Except for a few years in her youth when her family moved to Decatur, Alabama, Barbara was a resident of New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina, after which she relocated to Mandeville. She graduated from Fortier High School and attended Newcomb College. She was also a graduate of Soule Business School and worked as an accomplished legal secretary in New Orleans for many years. Barbara was a lifelong Methodist and was always active in her church. She was an avid gardener and bridge player. She was truly loved by all her many relatives and friends and will be greatly missed. Barbara is survived by her adoring husband of 56 years, John Hantel, her loving daughter, Jennifer Hantel Traina (husband Richard), and her beloved granddaughter, Grace Traina. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Nungesser Sherrouse of Pensacola, Florida, her brother Philip Nungesser (wife Sheila) of Atlanta, Georgia, and many close cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Dr., Mandeville, LA. The Service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Barbara’s name to a charity of your choice.
