Art Monroe Obituary

Art Monroe passed away on Tuesday, November, 14 2017. Born in Lansing, MI. Mr. Monroe moved to New Orleans in 1977 to open his first Taekwondo School. He had an enthusiastic passion for teaching martial arts over his 45 year career and achieved the highest rank possible in his Taekwondo organization of 9th Degree Senior Grandmaster. Mr. Monroe is one of the original founders of the United States Taekwondo Alliance, the International Taekwondo Alliance and Tiger Rock Martial Arts. Tiger Rock is a Martial Arts National Franchising company with over 140 locations across 20 states. Within the territory locations collectively there are approximately 25,000 members. Today Tiger Rock is the leading brand in Martial Arts industry. Mr. Monroe created an enormous impact in Tiger Rock inspiring a multitude of students, Instructors and Academy owners. For many years his was the highest performing academy in the organization.

Mr. Monroe encouraged and influenced many lives over his career and was pivotal to the success of Tiger Rock over four decades and positioning the organization for the next decade. He built his business from the ground up using his unstoppable perseverance, profound business skills and his incredible charismatic attitude. Blessed with a competitive spirit and tremendous sparring skills Mr. Monroe was a great athlete winning every tournament event that he entered.

Though he left a legacy through impacting thousands the main priority in his life was always family. An amazing father and husband, Mr. Monroe is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane and his daughter Madison Jayne that he absolutely adored.

While there are an abundant amount of words and phrases that accurately depict Mr. Monroe, the one that shines at the forefront is selflessness. Mr. Monroe did everything for the sake of others. He was a kind & humble man who was constantly giving, constantly caring and constantly making everyone laugh in the process. Art Monroe had a contagious smile and spirit that was addictive to all that knew him.

Mr. Monroe loved nature and the outdoors. When not on the mat he could be found on the golf course beaming about his most recent hole in one, on the lake reeling in a hefty bass or positioning himself a front row seat to watch the most turbulent thunderstorm rolling in. He enjoyed watching the Saints, always staying optimistic, and pleased that they are heading to the playoffs this season.

The vast number of lives that Mr. Monroe touched is incomparable and the effect he has had will linger throughout the myriad of people who love and cherish him.
