Anthony Amadeo Obituary

Anthony Charles Amadeo entered his eternal rest on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 8:09 a.m. He passed away peacefully, at the age of 85, at Ferncrest Manor Nursing Home in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Peter Amadeo and Lena Morella Amadeo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adrian Jean Egan Amadeo, his two infant sons, his sisters, Lena Amadeo Cook, Sarah Amadeo Monaghan Wilder and Vetter Amadeo Taylor, and his brother, Peter Walter Amadeo. He is survived by his children, Antoinette Marie Amadeo Gonzales (Melvin), Arleen Imelda Amadeo Antoine (Michael), Adrian Charles Amadeo (Debra Wilcox), Alycia Rose Amadeo Wax Adams (Thomas), and Anthony Charles Amadeo II (Brandie Donelon). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert H. Gonzales (Shelbi Guidry) and Rene M. Gonzales, Andrew M. Antoine and Mallory M. Antoine, Alexander C. Amadeo (Michele Palotta) and Desirée T. Amadeo, Amelie Wax Reeves (Brian) and Garrett P. Wax (Shelby Bateman), and Anthony C. Amadeo III, Addisyn E. Amadeo, and Aiden M. Amadeo. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Abigail K. Gonzales, Owen M. Gonzales, and Zane R. Gonzales, Grayson L. Gonzales, Eloise R. Amadeo, Callen M. Warren and Cohen P. Wax. Lastly, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. Anthony was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 22, 1936. He resided in Arabi and graduated from St. Stephen Catholic Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was also a 1953 graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans where he remained an active, loyal and dedicated alumnus throughout the years. He continued his education at Loyola University, in New Orleans, and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in the field of business. He met his wife, Adrian Jean Egan, in Arabi, where they married on November 21, 1959 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Anthony, along with Adrian, were founding parishioners of St. John Vianney/St. Louise de Marillac Parish in Arabi. He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Father Clarence C. Hug, C.M., Council No. 8186 and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Joseph F. Rummel Council No. 5747. He was also very active in St. John Vianney/St. Louise de Marillac Elementary School Parents Club, Parish Council, and Parish Fair Committee, and he served as President of Holy Cross High School Parents Club. He was an usher for both St. Louise de Marillac and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church parishes. Outside of his involvement with his church, Anthony was owner of Amadeo Enterprises, where he specialized in the production of Mardi Gras doubloons and many other types of advertisement specialties. He was a member of the Crescent City Coin Club of New Orleans, and reigned King of the St. Bernard Irish Italian Islenos Community Parade and Marching Club. Lastly, he will be remembered as “Mr. Anthony with the red fire truck”, who everyone enjoyed in numerous parades and events throughout the city. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1025 Napoleon Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately to follow. Interment at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery No.1, 1950 Soniat Street, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pallbearers will include Robert H. Gonzales, Rene M. Gonzales, Andrew M. Antoine, Garrett P. Wax, Anthony C. Amadeo, III, and Aiden M. Amadeo. In remembrance of Anthony’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Jesuit High School Scholarship Fund, in his name.
