Amedee Nelson Obituary

Amedee Joseph Nelson passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Windsor Senior Living Community, Mandeville at the age of 101. He was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for around 50 years. Amedee went to work for Higgins Marine, which at that time built boats suitable for the swamps of Louisiana. In 1941 he was drafted into the "Dixie Division" of the Army, he was part of the 932nd Field Artillery Battalion where he was a wire-man. With the start of WWII, Nelson boarded a Higgins boat for the invasion of Italy, the boat on which he had worked on was re-designed into the now famous boat "that won the war." In December 1945, he returned home and operated a gas station. Amedee loved football, golf, crossword puzzles, good jokes and fine food. Loving husband of the late Rita Hebert Nelson for almost 60 years. Devoted father of Linda Nelson Looney and her husband James. Brother of the late William Nelson, Edvige Nelson Engler, Mary Engler, Louise Sale, Mildred Castagnos, Ruth Splitter, Edna Hooley, Ameniade Mount. Grandfather of Jennifer DeLatte, William "Billy" Sussky and Matthew Sussky. Great grandfather of Evan Northey, Juliana Northey, Gabriella Silvestrini, Marcel Silvestrini, Kaia Sussky and Winston Kendrick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Funeral Services on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Holy Trinity Dr., Covington at 12:00 noon. Visitation at the church starting at 10:30am. Interment immediately following at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Covington, LA.
