Althea Rita Gernard passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in Covington, LA at the age of 93. She was born in Gretna, LA and lived in Metairie, LA for most of her life. She retired from the New Orleans School Board as a cafeteria manager after 25 years of service. Loving wife of the late Alvin Phillip Gernard, Jr. Daughter of Hilda and Alexander Carpenter. Devoted mother of Linda Gernard Cusimano (Nick), Alvin Phillip Gernard, III (Marlene), Julie Gernard Stoulig (George), Cynthia Gernard Martinez, Patti Gernard Brondum (Doug), and the late Roger Gernard. Sister of Elvera, Marion, Alexander, and Hilda. Grandmother of Paula, Jennifer, Christine, Ryan, Lauren, Corey, Amanda, Vernon, and Courtney. Great grandmother of Austin, Blair, Carson, Althea, Matthew, Marley, Aiden, Allie, Brennan, Lola, Caleb, and Porter. A Private Funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in New Orleans, LA, and Interment was at Hope Mausoleum, New Orleans, LA.
