Eddie Joseph Williams, age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, July 17, 2026, at Ochsner Foundation Hospital with his loving family by his side. He passed away battling a 9 month long difficult illness and treatment for kidney cancer.
Beloved Husband of Judy Tassin Williams for 55 years. Loving father of Christie L. Durr, her husband Steven R. Durr, and the loss of an infant, Elizabeth, in January of 1980. Devoted grandfather, who was affectionately called “Tubby” of Steven R. Durr, Jr., and Garrett F. Durr. He is survived by one brother, Robert H. “Willie” Williams, Jr.
Eddie is preceded in death by his late parents, Bernice Duplessis McElveen and Robert H. Williams and by his siblings, Lynda Graham, Lois Maes (her living husband John “Jack” Maes).
Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
As a Vietnam Veteran in the US Army, Eddie was stationed at Okinawa, and discharged in November 1971. He attended Redemptorist High School in New Orleans, and later in 1985, graduated from Delgado Community College in Funeral & Mortuary Science. Eddie was a hardworking man and had many different careers throughout his life. Eddie began his young career, at the age of 17, at the infamous Antoine’s Restaurant. Eddie began as a busboy, then worked in the kitchen, and eventually became General Manager, working there until 2006. He began his funeral industry career in the mid 1980’s starting with Ranson’s Funeral Home, then with Tharp Sonthiemer Funeral Home, and ending with Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home. Eddie developed close, longtime intimate friends in the funeral business…these friends and colleagues will miss him very much. In 2007 Eddie entered the La. POST (Peace Officers Standard & Training) Academy. Upon graduation, he received an award for the most determined and resilient cadet. He then went to work for the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer. Upon retiring from SBPSO, he worked for Veteran Security Services up until his illness.
Eddie was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Paris Rd., Chalmette at 11:30 AM with Visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd., Slidell LA at 1:30 PM.
