Joan Ferry Obituary
Joan Comstock Ferry, born November 22, 1932, entered eternal life on January 1, 2018, on the feast of the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. Joan was the daughter of the late Angeline Zito Comstock and Raymond Joseph Comstock, Sr. and the sister of the late Raymond Joseph Comstock, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Charles Joseph Ferry, Jr., and was the loving mother of Raye Ferry Latham (Mark) and Ruth Ferry Ragusa (Rand). She was the devoted “Mimi” to Bradley, Joshua, Matthew and Margaret Latham and Jacob Ragusa. She is also survived by numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Joan was a good and faithful servant to God. Her faith was strong and transparent. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church and co-founded the perpetual adoration chapel at Our Lady of Divine Providence. She passionately supported the unborn and was committed to saving the babies. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5301 Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Joan lived her life for others. She dedicated her professional life to teaching for over 30 years and unconditionally gave her love, care, and home to anyone in need. Joan was a wonderful cook and lovingly shared her delicious meals with all.
The family offers its heartfelt thanks to Ochsner Medical Center Drs. Dinshaw, Stoll, and Mohare for their patient and compassionate care over many years. The family also thanks Wendy, Oniika, Brittany, Schnika, Samantha, and Keshawna for their attentiveness and compassion to Joan and her family at the end of her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 6425 W. Metairie Avenue on Friday, January 5 at 12:30 pm, with visitation beginning at 11:30 am. Burial will be private.
The family prefers donations to the Woman’s New Life Center, 4612 S. Claiborne Ave., New Orleans, LA 70125, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Hwy, 36 Covington, LA., 70433. 985-875-1131.
