James Berns Obituary

James Patrick Berns, Sr., passed away on March 29, 2018, in Slidell, LA at the age of 69. He was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe for the past 38 years. James was employed with the Operating Engineers Local Union 406, he also owned and operated his own dump truck business. Loving husband of Dora Clavier Berns for 47 years and they have been together for the last 52 years. Devoted father of Charlene A. Berns, James P. Berns, Jr. and preceeded in death by his daughter Gina DeForest. Devoted son of the late Walter and Joyce Berns. Brother of David Berns and the late Willie Hoffman and Walter Berns. Grandfather of Kayla Couvilier, Calvin Couvilier and Cassidy DeForest and the late Ryan DeForest. James also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Adreanna and Rylan and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service and Mass at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Lacombe, Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 9:00am with the Mass beginning at 11:00am. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Covington, LA.
