Gordon Patrick Clavin passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the age of 81 from complications of surgery for stomach cancer. He was born in New Orleans, and graduated from John McDonough Senior High School and attended Loyola University for accounting and drafting. He served his country for eight years in the United States Naval Reserves. Gordon’s career spanned 40 years in automobile sales, where he served several generations of loyal customers at Bryan Chevrolet in Metairie. In 1959, he won top honors at the World’s National Championship Drag Races in Detroit for the “C” stock car class and set a national record. After moving to Abita Springs, La in 1994, he continued to restore classic cars, developed an interest in building church style birdhouses and redeveloped his interest in painting. He loved his home in Abita Springs and always felt blessed to have been chosen to steward this property. He cherished the time he spent on the porch watching the sunsets with his wife Dee, walking along the creek and talking to neighbors as he walked his dog Louie, followed by his cat Bob. Gordon was a loving, kind and warm hearted southern gentleman who enjoyed his family, friends, football and good food. As a parishioner of St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs, he nurtured his faith and grew into a deep personal relationship with the Lord, which was a tremendous comfort to him in his final days. Our lives were all enriched for knowing him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Quarles Montagnet, stepfather, Albert Montagnet and brother Patrick Clavin, Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Dianne “Dee” Clavin. Daughters, Dana Clavin Welch (Ricky), and Beth Ann Clavin who loved him dearly and will be missed beyond words. Grandfather to Rachel and Shane Welch. Uncle of Marnie Landry, Kim Clarke, Keri Waller, P.J. Clavin. In lieu of flowers, donations or masses in Gordon’s name, to St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church.
